NCTSN School Committee
Hosts Open Call

The NCTSN School Committee would like to invite interested Network members to join a 90-minute conference call on Friday, February 24 at 12 noon PST/3 pm EST to discuss ideas and projects on educational system and school-related issues as a means of improving access to services for traumatized children.

The NCTSN School Committee comprises Network members who are actively engaged in working with local schools. In the last NCTSN funding round, the Los Angeles Unified School District program, directed by Marleen Wong, successfully competed as a Trauma Services Adaptation Center, and together with its partners at Rand and UCLA, will lead the NCTSN School Committee.  The group will work on a national agenda for schools and help support the needs of specific NCTSN centers.  The NCTSN School Listserv is also being re-established; more information will be available on the February 24th call.

The LAUSD and other members of the NCTSN School Committee have identified some possible projects for the coming year. These include: preparation and distribution of a school-friendly listing of available interventions and programs; production of an educational training product to raise trauma awareness in school communities; creation of toolkits that address the logistics of implementing a trauma program in school; and development of a school readiness measure to enable schools to evaluate their own needs and resources.

The School Committee is hopeful that more individuals will join in helping the NCTSN School Committee realize its goals.  For more information or instructions on how to join the call, please contact Audra Langley at alangley@mednet.ucla.edu or Susan Ko at sko@mednet.ucla.edu.
